With the release of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26, Apple Notes introduced a small bug that affects notes with a cover image.
Instead of showing the note’s proper title, Notes may display the image filename as the title.
Here’s how to fix it.
On Mac (Two Options)
On macOS, you have two different ways to fix the issue.
Option 1: Rename the Image
- Right-click (or Control-click) the cover image.
- Choose Rename.
- Enter a neutral name like cover or header.
- The note will now display its correct title.
Heads-up: Apple Notes will show the file extension (e.g., .jpg, .png) in the note title. There’s no way to hide the suffix inside Notes. If you want a perfectly clean title, use Option 2 instead.
Option 2: Move the Image Below the Title
- Click and drag the cover image down.
- Place it below the first line (the note’s title).
- Your note will use the formatted title again.
On iPhone or iPad (One Option)
On iOS and iPadOS, you cannot rename images directly. The only workaround is to reorder the note content.
Steps:
- Open the affected note.
- Drag the cover image below the first line.
- The note title will display correctly.
